Our Story

It started in 2000 with an idea after one of my new weekly students casually said “I wish I could take you home.” “Why” I asked. “Because waiting a week to work on my dress is a long time.”

 

From this short conversation I started to think about how to film the basic techniques so that students like her could continue at home with watching the filmed lesson.

I thought and planed about this for 9 years - I just didn’t know how to do it.

 

Then in 2009 after moving to New Zealand I met a wonderful couple, and between us we had the skills to produce “The Sewing Skills” set of 5 DVD’s.

 

We set up a company “Sewing with Confidence.”

• With 40 years sewing experience, I was the teacher.

• Andrew is - as you can see in the film quality - an absolute expert in videography.

• Cheryl was the most patient editor, doing amazing work fixing small problems and

  getting rid of all my “ums”.
   

1. After 3 months and hundreds of hours the result was “The Sewing Skills” set of 5 DVDs -

   • A VIDEOED sewing textbook - a comprehensive resource for all sewers.

   • With 68 lessons - varying from 1:51min. and 33:55 min. in length.

   • In Total more than 11 hours of teaching.

   • Easy access - the lessons are put in alphabetical order.
      

2. After about 6 weeks, we felt rested & brave enough to start on the “Stretch Fabrics sewn the Easy Way” set of 2 DVDs.

   • With 30 lessons and a total of 4 hours of teaching.

   • Lessons also in alphabetical order.
      

3. Next came the “Everything you need to know about Overlocking” DVD. This was our best seller.

   • Getting to know your overlocker step by step.

   • There are notes you can download if you wish to do the Overlocker Course.
      

4. The last DVD we made was “Soft Lingerie” this was the only DVD that had sewing techniques and complete garments videoed,

   • Including a half-slip, Lace Bra, Negligee, Panties & Elastic applications.

   • Downloadable free lace bra pattern. With Half-slip or Negligee Skirt pattern instructions.

 

• Today most people don’t have DVD players, so it was logical to now put them available on-line.
